Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role
When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to join the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he auditioned people like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least introduce him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was involved in the project, which sparked interest from other famous actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was excited nonetheless. Shrinking is a rare gem, a show as funny as it is deeply moving.

Jason Segel is a fantastic therapist who comes to terms with personal loss, and Harrison Ford brings unexpected warmth and depth to his role as the gruff, no-nonsense mentor. What makes Shrinking so special is its way of balancing edgy humor with moments that hit right in the heart.
It’s absolutely brilliant
